He sat there in the airport lobby, his flight was due in 2 hours. He was really worried. An elderly man approached the lounge and sat next to him. The elderly man asked, “First time eh?” He turned to look at him. The elderly man seemed so familiar. That man was impeccably dressed. He replied, “Yeah…” Elderly man with a grin, “You got nothing to worry about. Less than one percent of the flights get hijacked or crashed. Just pray you are boarding one of 99 percent”.
He, “That’s not it. Its my girl. She’s not okay with this. I got a great job. Its always been my dream to work there. She doesn’t want me to go…” The elderly man flipping through the magazine, “I know…” He continued, “She thinks I’ll forget her. I wont came back or something” The elderly man said, “You know, she might be right.” He was little annoyed by that, “What the? You don’t know me.” The elderly man tossed the magazine onto the table, his behaviour was same as some one he knew, couldn’t call up who it was. Elderly man looked him in the eye, “ Distance makes heart go fonder… That’s bull crap. You are a smart kid. You ll get want you want. Sooner or later you gonna be obsessed with power and money. Everytime you think about her, its going to be hard. The more you miss her, the more you will try not to think about her. It doesn’t end good”
He said, “This is not any job, it’s THE job, I cant just throw it away.” Elderly man interuppted, “Listen to me, Kid. You can have all the things you ever wanted, it all becomes meaningless when you don’t have that one special person to share it with.” He said, “O-kay. I leave now. Make money- make name for myself. I come back to her, wont I get a second chance?” Elderly man patted him on the shoulders, “Trust me kid, this is your second chance. You can go catch your flight or run to her. Its up to you.”
And there was a moment of silence.
He broke the ice, “Hey we been talking for a while now, I dint get your name yet” Elderly man stood up and muttered “Amit bose”
He was too dumbfounded to even react. Nothing he could do but watch the elderly man fade away in the crowd. He picked up his bag, ran out and got a cab.
30 mins later…
He knocked on the door.
Her Dad opened the door, “Hello’
He breathing down, “Pooja?”
Her Dad, “And you are?”
He, “Amit… Amit Bose…”
